The Dept 56 backdrop starry night accessory gives your Christmas display a wonderfully ethereal nighttime feel. The midnight blue sky backdrop measures 39 x 59 inches when fully unfolded, and features twinkling stars and a gazing moon.
The Dept 56 starry night backdrop was introduced in 1997, and retired in 2000, so it’s no longer available new from Department 56. All Dept. 56 villages, figurines and accessories are offered for a fixed period of time only, so they’re all effectively limited edition collectors’ items.
If you’re lucky you’ll find a starry night sky backdrop available for sale from a collector’s website, or one of the many second hand trading and auction sites. If you love collecting, you’ll probably find hunting down limited edition treasures is half the fun.
Four easy steps to building a Christmas Village display:
1. Begin with a single Christmas Village building, or a collection of several village buildings which go together. Find an interesting and attractive way to arrange them in relation to one another. Experiment with different angles, and place them on varied levels using styrofoam or any of the Department 56 display platforms.
2. Add your Department 56 village starry night backdrop. You can also add accessories like trees and street lights.
3. Populate your starry nighttime Christmas village with characters. There’s a great range of Department 56 figurines doing all kinds of Christmassy things, like caroling, or doing last minute Christmas eve shopping. There are also horse-drawn carriages, so your characters can be taking a romantic evening ride.
4. Finish your Christmas display with a flourish by adding Christmas ornaments, tree trimmings and strings of lights.
